Hi! I am LaChante’ Thomas , an assistant to the Ft. Bragg Veteran’s Affairs Counselor at Campbell University. In December 2013, I will have earned a BS in Psychology and the plan is to start on a Master of Counseling degree in January 2014.  Having been raised in a single-parent household, and experiencing all the stress that comes with the territory, one was not expected to attend college and certainly not graduate form one.  This was a road that my life could have easily traveled down, but with the help of Shawonnica Hightower, I beat the odds.

Back in 1995, when I was just a high school graduate trying to figure out what to do with my life, Shawonnica took me under her wing and began to mentor me.  She took the time to help me complete the necessary forms to get accepted into college and financial aid.  And that is not all she even allowed me to live with her until I was gainfully employed and learned my way around the city.  She has been like a big sister to me.  At one point I stopped attending college, and even then she encouraged me to go back. When I did, I let her know that this time I would not stop until I had my degree in my hands.  She assured me that I was making the best move to secure my future and told me if i needed anything to let her know.

Since then, I have gotten married, moved to a new state, and continued to pursue my degree with confidence.  She has had a major impact in my life and I am forever grateful.  With the compassion and dedication she devotes to whomever or whatever she is involved with, lives can and will be changed. Mine was!
